You’ve done your research, you’ve created a Pinterest, you’ve picked up some wedding magazines, you think you’re prepared, but you’re probably not. We’re here to give you tips to help with planning your big day!
STEP 1: Create a NEW email to correspond with your wedding vendors. This will help you keep all of your receipts and inquires separate from your primary email that you’ve had since 5th grade (#bballangel87). It’s a great idea if you and your fiancé or mom, maid of honor, etc. are planning your wedding together. Anyone you need help from can access your wedding email without seeing what you’ve purchased from Amazon 4 years ago. We’ve seen examples such as: email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, etc.
STEP 2: Create a Pinterest if you haven’t already. This will help put all of your ideas in one spot. I shared mine with my mom and bridesmaids so they could see what style I was looking for. They had the option to pin to my board, as well!
STEP 3: Create a Snapchat filter! This is SO COOL! You can create your own Snapchat filter for all of your wedding guests! You can even do this for your bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner or bridal shower! Follow this link for more information: https://www.snapchat.com/geofilters
STEP 4: Create a hashtag for your wedding! Make a sign at your wedding so people know what to hashtag and you can view their photos online before your wedding photos are finished! It will allow you to see how much fun they had when you couldn’t be by each guest’s side all night! You can even document the entire process of your wedding planning if you choose your hashtag early enough! TIP: Make sure the hashtag isn’t taken already by searching for it on Instagram & Twitter!
STEP 5: Begin your wedding budget. This is so crucial to create before you start meeting with your vendors! You don’t want to go into a consultation unprepared. Do some research and find what general prices are for vendors in your area.
STEP 6: Bring everyone to the wedding consultation that is helping you in the decision-making process. You don’t want to waste time going to a consultation, LOVING the caterer, only to find out that your fiancé has already been in contact with a caterer within your wedding budget. This seems obvious because you’re both great at communicating, but you’d be surprised at the things you’ll miss the mark on because you’re planning the biggest celebration party of your life!!
STEP 7: Begin your guest list BEFORE you look at venues! You’ll need to have a general guest count to make sure you can fit all of your guests! When a venue says “200 maximum capacity” they don’t mean 250 guests! The maximum guests count isn’t suggestive. Fire Marshals are no joke.
STEP 8: If you hear a song you love while driving in the car, make sure to Shazam it or write it down! When you’re creating your list of songs for your DJ or band, you’ll want to be prepared instead of thinking about it for weeks because you don’t want to miss anything like I did.
STEP 9: Create a Wedding Wire or Knot profile for you and your fiancé. This isn’t crucial, but really helped us with our out of town guests. You may have guests attending that you haven’t met, so they’ll get to know a bit more about you if you have a wedding website with photos and a short bio. Your wedding website will also have a checklist with most of the things you’ll need to plan included with appropriate due dates. You can add your own list with due dates, as well! You can add where you’re registered and add directions to your page, too!
STEP 10: When you send your Save the Dates (which should be sent out 6 to 12 months in advance), add your hotel accommodations. I’m so happy we did this! We had people coming from out of town, so it helped them book their rooms in advance AND gave us enough notice if we would have a shuttle for the wedding day! Check in with your hotel monthly leading up to your big day to see how many rooms have booked. You may need to push your guests a bit to make their reservations!
